GCHS held a party to honor the many volunteers who are so very, very, necessary to the success of our shelter. It was a great way to give back to those who give so much of their time every year!

Casino Night

It’s coming! The long anticipated CASINO NIGHT will be held on May 5^that the Elks Lodge , 1331 C.H. Matthies, in Seguin! Mark your calendars now and don’t miss the wonderful fun evening out! Great fun and games, great prizes, live auction and silent auction! It is our biggest and best fundraiser. This CASINO NIGHT provides our shelter with funds necessary to sustain our day-to-day operation as well as help finance our low-cost SPAY & NEUTER PROGRAM. With this very successful program we have neutered over 3,470 cats and dogs within our community since its inception in 2008. Our adoption rate remains constant at an incredible 90+%. Our total number of “placed animals” is over 7,000. We are very proud of both these numbers!

Please plan on attending and also consider donating items that can be auctioned off either in our Silent Auction or Live Auction. Your donation is Tax Deductible and will do so much to help our Shelter. We are a 501c(3) Corporation – we do not get City, County or State funds, and, we operate mostly with volunteers. Our Fundraisers are a big part of our budget, so we ask you now, to help us make the 2012 CASINO NIGHT a success!

Spring Garage Sale

Our next event is our Spring Garage Sale, on Friday March 9^th at 9AM at the Seguin Silver Center. Please consider donating furniture, appliances in good working order, and other items you don’t need to help support the Humane Society. Deliver items to the shelter at 2484 N. State Hwy 46-Seguin, TX 78155, any Tues-Sat, 10AM-2PM, until Sat., March 3rd, or call the shelter at 830-372-2055if you need help getting the items to the shelter prior to October 5. Don’t forget to come to the garage sale on March 9th. We have lots of great items at great prices!

Our History

For many years, a very few dedicated animal-lovers held fund-raising events. Their dream….to one day build a No-KIll Shelter for unwanted and misplaced animals.

That dream came true when the Shelter opened its doors in June 1997.

Operating expenses are kept to a minimum as the Shelter is operated primarily by volunteers and a few paid employees. Our Shelter Director works tirelessly with no compensation.

There are no holidays – animals must be fed and kennels and cages cleaned daily.

The GCHS Shelter is proud of its 90%(+) adoption rate. Our job is to take the unwanted animals, but more importantly, it is to find them good, loving homes. Homes have been for over 90% of the animals since we opened in 1997. Most shelters struggle to achieve a 15% adoption rate, so you can see why we are so proud of our success.

Since opening the Shelter, we have added a large cat “Hotel” with eight small rooms suitable to house several cats in each room – every room has a view of the outside. In 2007 we added a Surgery Room to spay and neuter animals in our shelter before they are adopted,as well as enable us to offer a Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Program to unwanted kittens and puppies who often die of starvation, disease or neglect. The lucky ones are brought to a shelter, which are many times overloaded with neglected animals.
